A guest interview: Personal trainer and blogger Aino Rouhiainen!

A couple of weeks ago we started our series of interviews, where we interview interesting personalities who are in one way or another committed to the healthy and sporty lifestyle. Now it is time to hear what Aino Rouhiainen, a personal trainer, gym instructor and popular sports blogger from Finland, thinks about well-being.

GB: Hi Aino! Nice to meet you :) You are working as a personal trainer and gym instructor. Why did you choose that career path?

A: Hello and nice to meet you too! I have been very sporty since I was a child and I knew already then that I want to work some way with sports and nutrition. But actually, it took quite a while before I knew exactly what I wanted to do.

GB: You do sport 10-15 hours every week. Where do you get your energy from? Do you ever feel tired?

A: I hear this question a lot! I get energy simply from the fact that I love to do sports. Sport is for me like brushing my teeth, or like eating. It just simply belongs to my everyday life, in one way or another. Of course also getting enough of sleep, eating well and recovering are very important, since health and energy don’t come only from the workout but from many things together.

I’m very seldom tired, but I have those moments sometimes as well. I think being tired is often just in your own head. Positive thinking has a big impact!

GB: You are also a sports blogger. What motives you to write every day? What is your inspiration?

A: I get a lot of motivation and inspiration from my other work, which is being a gym instructor. My life goes mostly around working out, food and health, so of course, it is easy for me to write about those themes, even every day.

GB: In your blog you talk a lot about overall well-being. What does well-being mean to you?

A: Well-being is a sum of many different things. For me important aspects of it are sports, food (and enjoying the food), sleep and social life, so my friends and family. Living without stress and hurry is my target at the moment!

GB: Tell us shortly about your healthy lifestyle: how do you eat, rest and take care of yourself?

A: I eat a lot since I love different tastes. I like to spend time in the kitchen and try out different recipes. I eat always food that is very nutritious. I don’t think about calories or macros, but instead the pig picture. In every meal, I eat something green and something colorful. I don’t avoid anything, but mostly I eat gluten and dairy free.

Eating sugar makes me feel sick, so I relish myself with raw chocolate and self-made popcorn! :)

I try to sleep 8-10 hours every night. I have planned my work so that I can sleep a bit longer in the mornings so that I recover from my heavy workout routine. I think sleeping is one of the most important things in well-being. Everything starts from the good rest!

GB: If you can give only one tip to someone who wants to start living a healthy lifestyle, what would that be?

A: My very first advice is to check the quality and quantity of your sleep, because only when you get enough sleep it makes sense to concentrate on food and sport!
